SOMOS UN SOLO PUEBLO, Mexico Y Puerto Rico
The Puerto Rican Arts Alliance (PRAA) in partnership with Cuerdas Clásicas, AfriCaribe, and the Chicago Philharmonic present Somos un Solo Pueblo, Mexico y Puerto Rico as part of the inaugural Millennium Park Residency Program. This one-of-a-kind symphonic concert honors and celebrates Chicago’s vibrant and diverse Puerto Rican and Mexican communities on the iconic Jay Pritzker Pavilion stage. Emeritus Puerto Rico Symphony Conductor Roselin Pabón from San Juan, Puerto Rico and Symphony Conductor & Composer Sergio Cárdenas from Cd. Victoria, Mexico will present a cross-culture repertoire including popular Puerto Rican songs like Preciosa, plus Bomba and Plena music. Chicago groups Latin Music Project Ensemble, Cuerdas Clásicas, Mexican Folkloric Dance Company, and AfriCaribe will join in the celebration onstage with guest artists from Mexico and Puerto Rico. PRAA also will bring “pop-up” music presentations throughout the summer on the Millennium Park grounds.
This Millennium Park Residency performance is made possible by the generous support of the Millennium Park Foundation and the Pritzker Foundation.
Discounted parking for this concert is available at a rate of $13 at Millennium Park Garage and Millennium Lakeside Garage. Both are accessible at 5 S. Columbus Dr. and are located next to each other. Both pedestrian exists let out on East Randolph at Columbus. Audience entrances will be through Monroe and Randolph Street.
Roselin Pabón
Music Director Emeritus of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra in San Juan, Roselín Pabón has distinguished himself as one of the most versatile conductors in the Caribbean and Latin America. In 2021, PRAA collaborated with the Chicago Philharmonic for San Juan to Chicago, which featured Pabón.
He is known for impacting the Puerto Rican youth. For more than three decades, Pabón acted as Associate Music Director of the Symphony Orchestra in San Juan, and has been very important in the orchestra’s development and artistic growth.
Christian Nieves
Christian Nieves is a Cuatro player(cuatrista) and musician from Puerto Rico. He is features in the Song Around the World “Colors”, “Despacito”, and performed in the American reality television series “Q’Viva!: The Chosen”.
About Sergio Cárdenas
Sergio Cárdenas is a world-renowed Mexican conductor, composer and professor. He has worked with many orchestras around the world.
About Alan Pingarrón
Alan Pingarrón is a Mexican tenor known for interpretation of classical pieces. He has performed on several occasions at the Palace of Fine Arts and in the most important theaters, and festivals in Mexico.

The Mexican Folk Dance Company of Chicago was founded in 1982 by, its present artistic directors and choreographers. As Chicago's oldest Mexican dance institution, MFDC has received countless recognitions and awards, has performed for three presidents and represented Mexico in the 1994 USA World Cup opening ceremony, as well as numerous national television performances, most notably at the 2009 Latin Grammy Awards.
